FAQs

“Is the chemical safe for my children and pets ?”

All chemicals used inside the home are registered for such use . They are also registered for use in sensitive areas such as hospitals , child care centres , food preparation areas and public spaces . All liquid chemicals used inside by BG Pest Control are water based and odourless due to their composition . The chemicals are considered slightly toxic according to the LD50 scale and only have a caution label which means they are a schedule 5 chemical . Schedule 5 chemicals are substances with a low potential for causing harm . We ask that all people and pets are vacant from the home and grounds while the chemical is being applied and until the chemical has dried as industry best practice . ( cats and dogs removed from property – birds and fish should be covered with a plastic tarpaulin )

We also ask as an additional safety measure that children’s toys are placed away from areas to be sprayed , all food is covered or placed in cupboards and that all food preparation areas are wiped down prior to use after a pest spray . Pets bowls should also be covered or placed somewhere where they will not come into contact with the chemical before it has dried . Once the chemical has dried , the treated surfaces are safe for children and pets as the active constituent will bind to the surface it was applied to once the liquid carrier ( tap water ) has evaporated .

“What are Bed Bugs”

Bedbugs - Better Health Channel

Bedbugs are parasites that can infest houses, particularly beds and mattresses, and feed on human blood. Their bite typically causes a large, reddened and itchy wheal. Pesticides and good hygiene practices are usually required to rid a house of bedbugs.

House dust mite - Better Health Channel

The house dust mite has been associated with a range of respiratory and dermatological allergies, such as asthma and eczema. The main component of dust is shed skin flakes, which is the mite’s preferred food source. Areas around the home that are heavily used, such as beds and upholstered furniture, will have higher mite populations.
